True Weight App Reviews

Most used app

This is probably my most used app. I read The Hackers Diet about a year ago, and found using the median weight a fantastic way of keeping myself motivated (or at least, not discouraged). The interface is clean and simple, and just does what I need it to do. For the record, I have the 2.0 version, and Ive never had a problem with it.

waste of money, crashes all the time

will only save data if I exit the application. hitting the show progress button crashes the program every time. what a waste of money.

Works quite well

I havent experienced any of the crashing some reviewers are complaining of. The only reason I gave this 4 out of 5 stars is because the app doesnt feel feature-rich enough to justify the price. Apart from that, I find it quite nice.

Excellent to keep me motivated

Have used the app over a month now, along with a couple of other weight related ones. I like this one in particular because of its "true weight" calculation, which I assume is some averaging formula. Simply seeing a number as a real weight presentation makes it easier to stay motivated on the the days when actual weight shoots up. I particularly like the way the actual weight is entered. Very easy to enter the weight and to correct it if a mistake is made. I prefer it to a keypad popping up. A longer time-frame might be nice as it sure takes a long time to loose a bit of weight and it might help a bit on the motivation side to see results over a longer time period. Money well spent. Use the app every day.

simple and effective

Nearly 10 years ago I used a method very similar to this to calculate my weight. I discovered it as part of a program called the Hackers Diet. At first, I used a spreadsheet with with embedded formulas to do the calculations. Then I found a Palm Pilot application (The Eat Watch) that did the same thing, only better. Its nice to see a simple and effective tool like that one updated for the iPhone. I lost 70 pounds following the "Hackers Diet". Its a no nonsense approach to losing weight and increasing your fitness level. Count calories (eat less). Work out (exercise more). Record and monitor your progress by getting on the scale EVERYDAY (this is where True Weight will help).

Great App but missing BMI

Right now Im running this and Weightbot on my phone. The only thing that makes me keep both is the BMI function on the later, I find the graphs on True Weight better on comparison to WB as they are more readable. I would also like to see a projection to your goal weight somewhere as well as the ability to see your history more than 3 months at a time by swiping back under the current range (1-3 months). Keep up the good work developers!

Really helps track progress

I tried several other weight tracking apps, but none comes close in terms of ease to use and actually helping you understand your progress despite the normal weight fluctuations you have in a daily basis. Calculating the "real weight", which I suspect is nothing more than a moving average, gives you great understanding of your weight loss or gain trend. The calculation of an equivalent calories deficit or superavit is also excellent, for it gives you a tangible connection between you habits (eating or exercising) and weight change. It could include a BMI calculator, but I believe the improvement would be marginal on this excellently designed app.

Lame

Pretty lame. Cant see a table of all weights entered, graphs points before the first entry, baffling interface.

I use it daily

Really great. It keeps you sane while dieting. Does not let a day of sudden gain break you down. Does not let a sudden loss create unrealistic expectations. It is like a good objective friend that teaches you to take your numbers realistically. I really trust it. Even when the "true weight" seems totally crazy and offset, a few days later I always find out it has been very accurate in its predictions. On top of that it works in us, European, british units and it is extremely easy to go from kgs to lbs to stones. A click of a finger will do. Highly recommend.

Disappointing

Perhaps its because Ive only been using this for a few weeks and perhaps its because I only weigh myself once a week (weighing every day is ridiculous). The last time I entered my actual weight and locked it in, the software lowered that weight and my "true weight" became the weight I entered. Also there is no way that I can find to review a history of data entered. For a program that is so keen on people weighing themselves every day it seems lacking. I dont recommend this to anyone. An excel spreadsheet does the job much better.

great app, right price.

those people rating one star have no clue how the hackers diet works, and no understanding of why a moving average of your weight measurements is superior to the raw data. this is a fine app - just about the only missing feature is the ability to view your weight inputs in tabular form.

Beautiful interface, intuitive, keeps me motivated.

Easy to use, beautiful graphic interface. Nuff said.

Great app, every dieting app should do what this app does

Interface is clean, very convenient. The data you collect by weighing yourself every day is worse than useless if you dont handle it properly. This app does well at properly handling that data for you.

Great app if you want to weigh yourself daily

This app really does just what I want it to do: * Good interface for inputting the weight * Lets me view my weight change over time, with the daily noise variations smoothed out.

Needs refinement

Weekly (& monthly ?) stats need to be rolling intervals and not calendar.

Hooray for moving averages!

It does exactly what I want it to do, which is to allow me to record my weight daily and calculate the moving average. Its so much nicer than messing with spreadsheet apps.

Great at smoothing the ups and downs

Started using this to replace the venerable PalmOS Eat Watch. Takes care of the important bit of that app for me very well, showing how much Im REALLY losing or gaining no matter what my day-to-day spikes and dips try to fool me into thinking. I wish it had two more little features, though: a grid view of the actual data, and the ability to enter weights with a number pad instead of spinning the little "bathroom scale" dial--I really kind of began to hate doing that after the novelty wore off.

"True weight" is not enough!

Should be able to toggle between "true weight" and actual weight. While the true weight calc may be helpful, Also need to be able to easily see the actuals.

Awesome, but...

Works great - minimal, yet intuitive interface, but needs retina display graphics. Lots of blurry graphics.

Very simple input, informative displays

I weight myself several times a week, and use this to collect and view my entries. I imported several years of data from EatWatch on PalmOS via the web interface, and it works great; I have almost a decade of weight history at my fingertips. While I like the ease of input and helpful displays, my favorite thing about this is the fact that theres an escape hatch -- a way to pull my data out if I choose to, unlike most weight tracking tools.
